Social media platforms have recently been abuzz with misinformation claiming that Fiverr has made Pakistani freelancers unavailable on its platform.
However, a thorough investigation has revealed that these claims are based on outdated information and appear to be part of a deliberate attempt to create unrest within Pakistan's freelance community.
A detailed search on various social media platforms confirmed that the news circulating is not new but stems from a previous incident reported on May 11, 2023. No recent notifications or updates regarding this issue have been posted on Fiverr's official community groups, suggesting that the current spread of the news is unfounded.
The misinformation began circulating again on August 13, reportedly initiated by accounts linked to a political party with the intention of inciting unrest among Pakistani freelancers. Despite these claims, Fiverr’s platform was checked, and it was confirmed that profiles from Pakistan remain active. The platform’s operations continue as usual, and the profiles of Pakistani freelancers are fully functional.
Furthermore, it is noted that internet connectivity issues are common in the global South, including South Asia. Freelancers from this region occasionally receive notifications from Fiverr related to connectivity, but these issues are routine and not indicative of any broader problem with the platform’s availability or operations.
To address concerns, a video demonstration was provided, showing that Pakistani freelancers' profiles are indeed active and can be independently verified. This evidence counters the false claims and reassures users of Fiverr's continued support for its global community, including freelancers from Pakistan.
The spread of this outdated and misleading news highlights the need for vigilance and fact-checking in the digital age. Users are encouraged to rely on official sources for accurate information and to be cautious of misinformation aimed at causing unnecessary disruption.
