In a concerning development, the first case of polio in 16 years has been reported in Union Council number 4 of Islamabad.
The latest case marks a significant setback in the country’s ongoing fight against polio, bringing the total number of cases this year to 17 nationwide.
Ayesha Raza Farooq, a health official confirmed the case raising alarms about the resurgence of the virus in the capital after more than a decade.
Meanwhile, Anwar-ul-Haq, Coordinator of the National Emergency Operations Center, stated, "We are intensifying efforts to reach every child with the polio vaccine," underscoring the government's renewed commitment to eradicating the virus.
Health authorities are ramping up immunization drives to prevent further cases, as the polio virus continues to pose a threat to the nation's children.
