On September 9, 1965, the ninth day of the Pakistan-India war, two Pakistani Army officers were martyred in separate engagements with Indian forces.
Major Muhammad Ashraf Khan, from a support battalion responsible for Sialkot's defense, was killed while assessing the battlefield in his jeep. The following day, as Indian forces advanced towards Sialkot Cantonment, Major Ashraf Khan led efforts to halt their progress, destroying two enemy tanks before his death.
Lieutenant Colonel Sahibzad Gul, commanding an armor regiment, was killed while defending the Walthoa Railway Station. On September 8, his forces had pushed back Indian troops near the border and captured the Khem Karan sector. The next day, despite fierce resistance, they successfully captured Walthoa Railway Station. Lieutenant Colonel Gul was martyred during a subsequent Indian counterattack to reclaim the station.
