Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif officially launched the much-anticipated ‘Apni Chat Apna Ghar’ housing scheme, aimed at providing affordable homes and loans for the province’s citizens.
The inaugural ceremony took place in Lahore, where the Chief Minister highlighted the pressing need for homeownership, noting that individuals with secure housing often cannot comprehend the struggles faced by those without their own accommodation.
Scheme implementation
Under the ‘CM Punjab Apni Chat Apna Ghar’ housing initiative, over 3,000 homes will be constructed in each district of Punjab, with resources distributed equitably.
The scheme's initial focus will be on five key cities: Multan, Faisalabad, Sialkot, Sargodha, and Rawalpindi. In Lahore alone, 5,000 homes are set to be constructed near Raiwind Road during the first phase.
According to government officials, the housing project aims to provide much-needed relief to low and middle-income families by offering affordable, permanent residences.
Easy payment plans
One of the key features of the scheme is its affordability. Each apartment has been priced at Rs. 1.5 million, but with the government providing a 60% subsidy, residents are only required to pay 40% of the total cost. This amount can be further divided into manageable monthly instalments of Rs. 26,000 over five years. The initiative ensures that even families with modest incomes can realize the dream of owning their own home.
Application process
To facilitate the application process, the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) has developed a dedicated online portal for the scheme. The portal (acag.punjab.gov.pk.) allows citizens to register, track, and manage their applications conveniently from anywhere. Additionally, a helpline (0800-09100) has been established to assist applicants with queries.

“The Chief Minister’s Apni Chhat Apna Ghar project will benefit those who have been struggling for years to build their own homes but were unable to do so due to financial constraints,” said Anwar.
In the first phase, the scheme is set to provide interest-free loans to approximately 70,000 families, enabling them to construct homes on their land.
Social impact and benefits
The ‘Apni Chat Apna Ghar’ program is expected to provide not only affordable housing solutions but also contribute to the overall socio-economic uplift of the province. By promoting homeownership, the scheme is anticipated to improve living standards and reduce homelessness. The government’s focus on inclusive development aims to ensure that no one is left behind.
In her concluding remarks at the inauguration, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz stated, “This project is not just about building houses; it’s about building futures, ensuring stability, and providing the people of Punjab with a sense of security that comes with having a place to call home.”
