Former Pakistan cricketer Aamir Sohail commended Pakistan white-ball captain Babar Azam for looking forward to "addressing" his technical flaws in the ongoing Champions One-Day Cup at the Iqbal Stadium in Faisalabad.
Expressing his thoughts on his YouTube channel, the ex-batting maestro said: “Babar has made all-out efforts in the two matches, he played so far in the Champions One-Day Cup. He [Babar Azam] is also working to address his technical flaws that everyone was pointing out during the red-ball series against Bangladesh.”
“Babar Azam’s mode of dismissal in 2023 was around 47 percent. Since 2019, almost eight coaches have worked with the Pakistan national cricket team. But none of them had an idea that what was the technical flaw of Babar Azam,” he added.
Recalling that the role of the mentors and coaches in uplifting the players’ game is of great importance, Sohail said: “There is a dire need for the mentors, and coaches to ensure that they tell the players the significance of meeting the needs of modern-day cricket.”
“It is also important to ensure the job description of the coaches prior to their hiring. The coaches should also know what the requirements of their job are,” he added.
He asked the coaches to keep an eye on the players’ development. “Coaches should know which player should be developed for Pakistan, Pakistan A and Pakistan U-19,” Sohail stated.
Speaking about Pakistan all-rounder Aamir Jamal, Sohail said: “Aamir Jamal, who performed in Australia, got injured and was ruled out from the Bangladesh series. But now, when Jamal made his comeback to competitive cricket, it is disappointing to see him batting at number eight in the Champions One-Day Cup.”
“Aamer Yamin is being preferred over Aamer Jamal. I believe that Jamal should be given the opportunity to bat at number four or five, as this is not the way you groom players. There is a need to boost Jamal’s confidence so that he even performs better for the Pakistan national cricket team in a more definite way,” the renowned commentator added.
“Hopefully, it will be ensured to see the wider picture of the game as there is a lot of anticipation for the Champions One-Day Cup,” Sohail maintained.
