Israel on Friday launched a series of airstrikes on Hezbollah’s main military headquarters in Beirut, the capital of Lebanon.
According to media reports, the Israeli military targeted Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah in these attacks, which were carried out in the southern suburbs of Beirut.
Israeli media reported that the strikes were aimed at Hezbollah’s leadership, specifically Nasrallah, and were launched while several commanders were present at the headquarters. However, conflicting reports have emerged, with no immediate confirmation from Hezbollah about whether Nasrallah was injured or safe.
Arab media outlets, including Al Jazeera, reported that over 10 missiles struck a building known as Al Burj, located on the airport road in Beirut. The attack caused widespread destruction, with four buildings severely damaged. According to initial reports, two people were killed, and Red Crescent teams, along with local rescue workers, have been working to provide aid at the scene.
The extent of the devastation has raised concerns that the death toll may rise as more people are pulled from the rubble.
The Israeli military claimed that Hezbollah’s central leadership office, located underground in the building, was the primary target, and that Hassan Nasrallah was believed to be present at the time of the strikes.
While Israeli sources insist that Nasrallah was targeted, Iranian media has reported that the Hezbollah leader survived the attack. A senior Hezbollah commander also confirmed to Reuters that Nasrallah was unharmed, though further details are still emerging.
