As US Vice President JD Vance prepares for his official visit to India, the American leadership of the Khalistan movement has raised serious concerns. Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, the chief of Sikhs for Justice (SFJ) and a prominent Khalistan advocate, has penned a letter to Vance urging him to address the alleged Indian plot to assassinate him.
In the letter, Pannun accused a close aide of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi of paying $250,000 to orchestrate his killing. He urged the US Vice President to confront Indian authorities on the matter and label the assassination plot as state-sponsored terrorism.
“The Modi government is involved in a conspiracy to kill a US citizen. This is not just a personal threat, it’s a threat to American sovereignty and justice,” Pannun stated.
He further demanded that any trial regarding the attempted murder of an American citizen should take place under US laws in American courts.
Pannun also expressed hope that the freedom of Khalistan movement organizers would continue under the potential return of the Trump administration. He emphasized the need for US officials to hold India accountable for actions that allegedly breach international and human rights laws.
The allegations come amid increasing global scrutiny over India's role in targeting Sikh activists abroad, following similar claims made in the US and Canada over the past year.
