Pakistani musician Waris Baig has disclosed that seasoned Bollywood director Mahesh Bhatt has "apologised" for the unauthorized use of one of his songs in the blockbuster movie Murder.
Baig revealed in a podcast interview that Bhatt stole his song for the movie without first realizing a Pakistani musician wrote it.
"Mahesh Bhatt later apologised to me for the unauthorised use of the song," Waris stated.
The director said that at the time he was ignorant of its origin.
Baig went on to say that over the years, many of his songs have been copied, primarily by Bollywood films.
"I don't take offence if someone copies my songs," he added, explaining that during his time, no system was in place to protect artists' work. "Now YouTube sends strikes to those who copy, but back then, we had no such mechanism."
Baig did not seem offended even though several of his songs had been copied; rather, he acknowledged how IP rights have changed in the digital era.
