A Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) air hostess and two passengers were arrested, as Customs officials at Lahore's Allama Iqbal International Airport thwarted an attempt to smuggle more than 65 high-value mobile phones.
The incident unfolded in two separate operations on flights arriving from Dubai.
In the first operation, Customs officials intercepted Nadia Batool, a PIA air hostess, as she attempted to smuggle 30 mobile phones. According to Customs sources, Batool had concealed the phones in various parts of her body. The estimated value of the recovered mobile phones is over Rs10 million.
In a separate operation, a couple, Arshad and Fariha, who had arrived on another flight from Dubai, were found with 37 mobile phones attached to their bodies. Customs officials seized the phones, and the couple was immediately taken into custody.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the smuggling attempt, and all three individuals have been arrested pending further legal action.
