Vice President Kamala Harris is in "excellent health," according to a letter from her physician, Dr Joshua R. Simmons.
The letter, released Saturday, provides insight into Harris's physical and mental fitness, as her campaign looks to draw a sharp contrast between her vitality and the age of her Republican opponent, Donald Trump.
Dr Simmons, who has been Harris's doctor for over three years, wrote that the 59-year-old vice president “possesses the physical and mental resiliency required to successfully execute the duties of the presidency.” Harris’s April physical was described as "unremarkable," with only minor conditions like seasonal allergies and urticaria, which are managed with medication and have improved significantly.
Harris’s release of her medical details comes as polls show her in a tight race with Trump.
The Harris campaign has aimed to highlight Trump’s age and health as potential liabilities, particularly as Trump has refused to release comprehensive medical reports during this election cycle.
Harris’s team is focusing on his unscripted moments, including rambling speeches and confusing statements, to raise questions about his mental acuity.
Trump, who has only released vague health letters, has consistently refused to provide more detailed updates. In contrast, Harris's report includes information on her blood pressure, heart rate, and blood oxygen levels, while also noting that she follows a healthy diet and engages in vigorous daily exercise.
With just weeks remaining until Election Day, Harris’s campaign is pushing to make Trump’s refusal to disclose his full medical history a key issue.
