An earthquake of magnitude 6.3 jolted northwestern Afghanistan on Saturday (today), the German Research Center for Geosciences (GFZ) said, killing 14 people and injuring 78.
An official predicted that the death toll could rise as there were reports people were buried under collapsed buildings.
"These are the numbers that have been brought to the central hospital so far, but this is not the final figure," the public health director of Herat province Mohammad Taleb Shahid told AFP. "We have information that people are buried under rubble."
As per details, the earthquake was at a depth of 10 kilometers (6.21 miles).
The tremor was followed by an aftershock with a 5.5 magnitude on the Richter scale.
According to a United States Geological Survey (USGS) preliminary report, hundreds of fatalities were possible.
