The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has launched an inquiry into the spread of disinformation on social media concerning an alleged rape incident at a private educational institution in Lahore.
A seven-member investigation team, led by the Deputy Director of the FIA Cyber Crime Circle Lahore, has been formed to address the issue.
According to official sources, the action was initiated following a formal complaint by the principal of the college in question.
The principal expressed concerns about the misleading and false information circulating online, which had sparked unnecessary panic and created a law and order situation.
The investigation team has been tasked with identifying individuals involved in spreading false narratives related to the incident on various social media platforms.
FIA officials have assured that all available resources will be employed to track down and hold accountable those responsible for the disinformation campaign.
"Creating chaos through fake news is a serious crime, and we are committed to ensuring that the culprits face justice," an FIA representative stated.
