Prominent Sikh leaders in Canada have expressed strong support for the expulsion of six Indian diplomats accused of involvement in violent criminal activities, including homicides, extortion, and coercion, as announced by the RCMP.
The World Sikh Organization (WSO) and other Sikh activists have long claimed that India has been targeting the Sikh community in Canada, and they welcomed the recent developments as proof of foreign interference.
WSO president Danish Singh emphasized that Indian interference has endangered the safety of Canadian citizens, particularly those involved in the pro-Khalistan movement. He condemned India's actions, stating that “India’s criminal activities in Canada must end. We expect Canada’s elected officials to unite in condemning India’s foreign interference.”
The RCMP has uncovered more than a dozen credible threats to pro-Khalistan activists, including the 2023 assassination of Sikh leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar outside a Surrey gurdwara. Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, founder of Sikhs for Justice, applauded the expulsion of Indian diplomats and vowed to continue advocating for a Khalistan referendum despite ongoing threats.
Sikh activist Gurmeet Singh Toor, who has faced threats himself, called the RCMP’s actions a "relief" but stressed the need for prosecutions. British Columbia NDP leader David Eby also expressed shock over the allegations, stating that such violent acts have no place in Canada.
Despite India’s denial of the accusations, the revelations have raised significant concerns about foreign interference and the safety of the Sikh community in Canada.
