October marks Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a time dedicated to highlighting the ongoing fight against a disease that impacts women worldwide.
This month serves not only to raise awareness about the critical importance of early diagnosis and treatment but also to foster a powerful connection of love, support, and solidarity among those affected by breast cancer.
Survivors of breast cancer are taking this opportunity to spread an important message. One survivor, Atiya, expressed, “I was overwhelmed when diagnosed with breast cancer due to all the negativity surrounding it. However, the doctors at CMH Rawalpindi reassured me and provided excellent care.”
Another survivor, Aliya Ayaz, emphasized that breast cancer does not discriminate by age and can affect women of any age. Thus, regular medical check-ups are essential. Professor Dr. Colonel Riffat Naqvi, a breast cancer surgeon at CMH Rawalpindi, warns that breast cancer is rapidly increasing among young women, with one in every nine women at risk. He urges women over 40 to get annual mammograms for early detection, which significantly improves treatment outcomes.
