Iranian forces allegedly killed at least 260 Afghan migrants by opening fire on them near the Kalgan border crossing on Sunday evening, according to Haalvsh, an Iranian-based human rights organization.
Survivors recounted harrowing scenes, stating that Iranian military forces attacked the group.
Haalvsh reported that two survivors claimed around 300 migrants were attempting to cross the border when they were fired upon and targeted with RPGs. The organization further stated that dozens were wounded in the attack.
"On Sunday evening, dozens of Afghan migrants were ambushed by the Islamic Republic's military forces near the Kalgan-Saravan border and were attacked with direct fire and RPGs. Many were killed, and numerous others were injured," Haalvsh said in a statement.
Images shared by survivors showed that many of the migrants had been shot multiple times. Iranian authorities have not yet commented on the incident.
