Indian batter Virat Kohli surpassed the legendary Australian batter, Sir Don Bradman's tally of 29 centuries on the third day of the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy on Sunday.
Kohli achieved this landmark during the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar series against Australia, ending a 16-month drought without a Test hundred.
The milestone knock came on the third day of play as Kohli battled mounting pressure after a string of low scores in recent matches. Walking in with India in a strong position, he delivered a flawless, unbeaten 100 off 143 balls, decorated with eight boundaries and two sixes.
Kohli's record-breaking innings propelled India to a commanding lead of 533 runs. Subsequently, Indian captain Jasprit Bumrah decided to declare the innings.
The century also marked Kohli's seventh in Test cricket on Australian soil, breaking Sachin Tendulkar’s record for the most centuries in Australia by an Indian player.
Across all formats, Kohli has now notched 10 centuries in Australia, overtaking Englishman Jack Hobbs, who had previously held the record with nine.
This masterclass has silenced critics and reinforced Kohli’s reputation as one of the greatest batters in cricket history.
