Renowned diplomat and former chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Syed Zulifqar Ali Bukhari was remembered today on his fifth death anniversary.
Mr Bukhari passed away on January 3, 2019, after a prolonged illness.
Bukhari served as the chairman of PCB from 1995 to 1997, a period marked by significant developments in Pakistan cricket.
His tenure is often praised for his efforts to bring stability and structure to the sport at a national level.
Beyond cricket, he was a distinguished diplomat, having served as Pakistan’s ambassador to Spain and as a director at the State Bank of Pakistan, showcasing his versatility and dedication to public service.
Born into a family with a deep appreciation for sports, Bukhari’s passion for cricket started early. As a tall, right-handed batsman, he captained Aitchison College’s cricket team and later represented the Lahore Gymkhana, where he played under stalwarts like Dr. Jahangir Khan and Agha Ahmed Raza Khan until the late 1960s.
While cricket was his first love, he also excelled at hockey in his youth, further underlining his athletic prowess.
