The Narowal District Jail team emerged victorious in the Lahore Region Inmates' Shooting Volleyball Tournament, held at Kot Lakhpat Jail under the directives of the Government of Punjab and the Inspectorate of Prisons, Punjab.
The four-day tournament, which commenced on 22 April, concluded on Friday with the Narowal team defeating the Hafizabad District Jail team in a thrilling final match to claim the championship title and the winner’s trophy.
The tournament featured spirited participation from inmate teams representing eight prisons across the region, including District Jail Kasur, Central Jail Gujranwala, District Jail Sialkot, District Jail Lahore, Central Jail Lahore, District Jail Narowal, District Jail Hafizabad, and District Jail Sheikhupura.
The event aimed to promote healthy recreational activities and sportsmanship among incarcerated individuals, and aligned with the Punjab Government’s broader vision of prisoner rehabilitation and reintegration.
After the final match, Deputy Inspector General of Prisons Naveed Rauf graced the occasion as the chief guest.
He awarded trophies and other prizes to the winning team and lauded all teams that took part for their enthusiasm, discipline, and sportsmanship throughout the tournament.
“This initiative reflected our commitment to offer inmates constructive outlets for physical and mental well-being,” DIG Naveed Rauf said during the prize distribution ceremony.
He added that such activities not only enhanced physical fitness but also instilled teamwork, resilience, and a sense of achievement among the inmates.
Senior Superintendent of Kot Lakhpat Jail Ijaz Asghar said that the successful conclusion of the tournament underscored the growing emphasis on reformative programmes within Punjab’s prison system, and offered hope, discipline, and opportunities for change to those behind bars.
