Aircraft operating within the vicinity of Pakistan’s major airports have reported frequent disruptions in GPS signals, according to a NOTAM (Notice to Airmen) issued by the Pakistan Airports Authority.
The issue has been observed within a 100-nautical-mile radius of Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad airports, as well as in other areas within the Karachi and Lahore Information Regions.
Pilots have experienced GPS interference during flights, which can lead to navigation difficulties and potential deviations from designated flight paths.
In response, aviation authorities have urged pilots to immediately report any such incidents to Air Traffic Control (ATC), providing all relevant details for assessment.
ATC has been directed to assist affected flights and ensure necessary measures are in place for the safe and effective continuation of navigation despite frequency interference.
Authorities have not yet disclosed the possible cause of the interference but have emphasized the need for vigilance and timely reporting from pilots.
The NOTAM instructs flight crews to take precautionary steps and seek ATC support in case of navigation difficulties.
Industry experts suggest that prolonged GPS issues could impact flight scheduling and operational efficiency if not addressed promptly.
