A case of alleged sexual assault of a mentally challenged woman by a police officer in Manawan has been declared high-profile by the Prosecutor General, who has taken notice of the incident.
The Prosecutor General questioned the investigative officer, asking why the victim was kept at the police station.
He also inquired why the accused officer, who allegedly committed the assault at gunpoint using a government-issued rifle, had not had his uniform and weapon seized as evidence.
Due to flaws in the investigation, the Prosecutor General issued a show-cause notice to the investigating officer.
He further directed that the case be investigated by the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) and ordered the immediate transfer of the victim to Dar-ul-Aman (a women’s shelter).
Additionally, the Prosecutor General instructed that the case be updated to include sections related to sexual assault.
