The BJP's Rekha Gupta, a first-time MLA from Shalimar Bagh, is set to take oath as the new Chief Minister of Delhi today at a grand ceremony at Ramlila Maidan. This marks the BJP's return to power in the national capital after 26 years.
Chief Ministers and Deputy Chief Ministers will attend the oath-taking ceremony from 20 states, top BJP leaders, and party workers who campaigned in the Delhi elections. More than 50 film stars and industrialists are also expected to be present.
According to Indian media reports, the event will begin with a vibrant musical program featuring singer Kailash Kher. Several diplomats and prominent spiritual leaders, including Baba Ramdev, Swami Chidananda, and Baba Bageshwar Dhirendra Shastri, have also been invited.
Farmers and beneficiaries of central government schemes, including the Laadli Behna initiative, will be among the public attendees at the ceremony.
Gupta was chosen as the leader of the BJP legislature party 11 days after the Delhi election results were declared. She will lead a six-member cabinet comprising Manjinder Sirsa, Ashish Sood, Pankaj Kumar Singh, Ravinder Indraj Singh, Kapil Mishra, and Parvesh Verma.
The BJP secured a landslide victory earlier this month, winning 48 out of 70 assembly seats, reducing AAP’s strength to just 22— a sharp decline from its 2020 tally of 62.
The Aam Aadmi Party’s 10-year rule came to an end following corruption allegations against its leadership, including former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. Several AAP leaders, including Kejriwal and his former deputy Manish Sisodia, have spent months in jail over graft charges.
