Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reached Azerbaijan's capital, Baku, on a two-day official visit. Azeri First Deputy Prime Minister Yakub Abdullah Oluwayev received him at Heydar Aliyev Airport.
Earlier, the PM had departe for Azerbaijan from Lahore, accompanied by a high-level delegation. The visit, made at the invitation of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, aims to strengthen bilateral relations and enhance cooperation in multiple sectors.
Upon landing in Baku, PM Shehbaz expressed his thoughts in a post on his official X account. "Landed in the beautiful city of Baku, where the past and future converge in a vibrant embrace. The city looks even more enchanting under a blanket of snow! Looking forward to productive discussions for further strengthening the deep rooted bonds between Pakistan and Azerbaijan. We also seek to enhance our trade and investment ties," he posted.

Prominent members of the delegation include Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Federal Minister for Investment Board, Communications, and Privatization Abdul Aleem Khan, along with federal ministers Jam Kamal Khan, Attaullah Tarar, Chaudhry Salik Hussain, and Special Assistant Tariq Fatemi.
During his visit, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will hold a crucial bilateral meeting with President Ilham Aliyev and other senior Azerbaijani officials. The discussions will focus on cooperation in key areas such as energy, trade, defence, education, and climate change. The visit is expected to pave the way for increased collaboration between the two nations.
Additionally, the PM and Azerbaijani leadership will also address the Pakistan-Azerbaijan Business Forum, where he will highlight investment opportunities and economic partnerships between the two countries. Business figures from both countries are expected to participate in the forum.
Multiple Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) and agreements aimed at strengthening ties across various sectors are expected to be signed between the sides during the visit. The agreements will facilitate increased trade and investment while fostering deeper economic and strategic cooperation.
This marks Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's second visit to Azerbaijan since assuming office in March 2024. Officials from both sides have expressed optimism that the visit will lead to meaningful partnerships and further enhance Pakistan-Azerbaijan relations.
