The Philippine Navy is looking to strengthen its defense ties with Pakistan, and a recent visit by a Pakistani naval delegation to Manila signaled a step in that direction.
According to the state-run Philippine News Agency, delegates of the 54th Pakistan Navy Staff Course of the Pakistan Navy War College visited the Philippine Navy headquarters in Manila on February 26. In a statement, PN spokesperson Capt John Percie Alcos said the delegation consists of 21 officers from Pakistan, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Nigeria, Malaysia, Indonesia, Bangladesh and Turkey. The delegation was led by Commodore Ahsen Ali Khan, Assistant Chief of the Naval Staff for Maritime Affairs and Policy Research.
The Philippine Navy welcomed them and sent a clear message that this was more than just a learning exchange. Rear Admiral Alan Javier, speaking on behalf of the navy chief, stressed the importance of mutual understanding and cooperation. “The activity is not merely an educational exchange, but rather it also provides a platform to foster mutual understanding, enhance partnerships, and share knowledge and best practices with one another,” Javier was quoted as staying. The visit allowed both navies to share strategies, best practices, and experiences, reinforcing their commitment to regional security.
For years, Pakistan and the Philippines have maintained a naval partnership through joint training and exercises. This visit reaffirmed that commitment. Alcos said the visit highlights the importance of fostering stronger naval cooperation and mutual understanding between the Pakistan and Philippine navies. By sharing knowledge and expertise, the visit enhances both navies’ ability to address regional maritime challenges and ensures continued collaboration for greater maritime security and stability in the region.
