Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has taken notice of gas shortages during Sehar and Iftar in the holy month of Ramadan and directed immediate measures to ensure uninterrupted supply to consumers.
In response to public complaints, the prime minister convened an emergency meeting late Monday night, attended by the managing directors and senior officials of Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) and Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL). The meeting focused on addressing gas supply issues, particularly in areas facing low pressure.
Following the Premier’s directives, SSGC announced an immediate 10 per cent increase in gas pressure. Additionally, to mitigate supply challenges, gas distribution in areas located at the tail end of supply lines will commence 30 to 45 minutes before Sehar and Iftar to stabilize pressure levels.
To monitor the situation, SSGC has set up control rooms at its head office and regional centers, which will oversee daily gas supply and address complaints on an urgent basis.
“Complaints regarding low gas pressure will be dealt with on a priority basis, and a daily report will be submitted,” an SSGC spokesperson said.
Meanwhile, SNGPL has also assured consumers of uninterrupted gas supply during Sehar and Iftar. “In line with the Prime Minister’s directives, we are taking immediate steps to ensure that citizens do not face difficulties during these crucial hours,” an SNGPL spokesperson stated.
Consumers have been advised to report any complaints by contacting the company’s helpline at 1199.
