Federal ministers on Tuesday highlighted Pakistan’s efforts to restore economic stability, counter internal and external challenges, and accelerate digital transformation.
Defence Minister Khawaja Asif stated that the government inherited difficult conditions but remains committed to achieving economic stability despite efforts to spread chaos. He accused the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) of disrupting national stability and reiterated the government’s resolve in fighting terrorism.
“The war on terrorism is being fought vigorously, and Pakistan’s enemies are being confronted,” Asif emphasized, acknowledging the country’s internal and external security challenges.
Economic planning & development
Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal criticized past disruptions to Pakistan’s economic roadmap, mentioning that Vision 2010 and Vision 2025 were halted, affecting progress. He announced the revival of the country’s development strategy under "Uran Pakistan", which aims to drive growth across all sectors.
“Pakistan experienced an internal economic default on April 1, 2022, but we have formulated a new roadmap -- Uran Pakistan -- that all ministries are implementing,” Iqbal said.
He also lamented delays in CPEC projects, stating that they were wrongfully labeled as corrupt under the previous administration. However, he confirmed that the Kachchi Canal project has been completed and stressed that no country can develop without peace and stability.
IT sector boom & digital expansion
Minister of State for IT & Telecom Shaza Fatima Khawaja highlighted Pakistan’s digital transformation, reporting:
- 1 million new internet users joined in the past year
- Three new submarine cables were laid to enhance internet speed
- IT exports reached $2 billion
- Internet services expanded to remote areas
- Pakistan improved by 14 places in the e-Governance Index
She also noted 70 government-to-government (G2G) and business-to-business (B2B) agreements were signed to strengthen the digital economy.
Ahsan Iqbal urged citizens to prioritize economic progress over political instability. "We must embark on an economic long march and ignore any agenda of chaos," he stated.
