Pakistani drama Kabhi Main Kabhi Tum, the highest-rated show from 2021 to 2024, is once again making headlines—this time due to allegations of plagiarism.
Fans have accused the popular Indian serial Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai (YRKKH) of copying key elements from the Pakistani hit.
The ongoing fourth-generation storyline of YRKKH, featuring Abhira (Samridhii Shukla) and Armaan (Rohit Purohit), has left audiences disappointed as they believe the show has replicated scenes, dialogues, and even character styling from Kabhi Main Kabhi Tum.
In particular, YRKKH depicts Armaan and Abhira leaving their luxurious home to start over in a modest, rundown house—a storyline that closely resembles Mustafa (Fahad Mustafa) and Sharjeena (Hania Aamir) in Kabhi Main Kabhi Tum. Fans have also pointed out similarities in Sharjeena’s signature salwar-and-T-shirt look, which appears to have been imitated in YRKKH.
Social media is abuzz with criticism, with fans calling out the alleged plagiarism. Many are demanding that Indian creators acknowledge the inspiration or bring more originality to their scripts.
Produced by Fahad Mustafa and Ali Kazmi under Big Bang Entertainment, Kabhi Main Kabhi Tum was directed by Badar Mehmood and marked Fahad Mustafa’s grand return to television after a decade. The show’s gripping storyline, marvellous performances, and hit soundtrack ‘Chal Diye Tum Kahan’ contributed to its phenomenal success, surpassing 1 billion views and cementing its status as a South Asian favorite.
As the controversy unfolds, fans await a response from the makers of Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai.
