A local court in Karachi has declared the marriage of Dua Zahra and Zaheer valid, rejecting a petition seeking to declare their marriage certificate fake.
The petition was filed by Dua Zahra herself in an attempt to annul her marriage.
During the hearing, the court remarked that the matter of annulment should be taken up with the relevant legal forum rather than through this petition.
Dua Zahra, who gained widespread media attention last year, married Zaheer Ahmed of her own free will after meeting him on an online gaming platform. However, controversy erupted when she was declared a minor, leading authorities to shift her to a shelter home. Later, she was allowed to move back to her home.
The latest legal proceedings stemmed from Dua Zahra’s attempt to annul her marriage, for which she filed a petition through her father.
However, the court ruled in favour of the marriage’s validity and advised that the appropriate legal platform should be approached for its dissolution if required.
