Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders have expressed dissatisfaction with the performance of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government, criticizing its failure to address development issues in Peshawar.
The concerns were raised during a district-level meeting, where party members strongly condemned the government's inefficiency in improving infrastructure and public services.
A joint communiqué issued after the meeting highlighted several governance failures and challenges. PTI leaders stated that despite the party being in power for the third consecutive term in KP, Peshawar continues to struggle with fundamental issues. They pointed out that various constituencies in the city have been neglected, and developmental projects remain incomplete.
One of the major concerns raised was the collapsed sewage system, which leads to urban flooding after heavy rains. Additionally, the meeting criticized the poor performance of the Water and Sanitation Services Peshawar (WSSP), which has resulted in a deteriorating sanitation system across the city. Many areas in Peshawar also lack access to clean drinking water, further exacerbating the public’s difficulties.
The communiqué also noted that several parts of the city remain without proper street lighting, posing security risks to residents. Business opportunities, particularly in the real estate sector, have diminished, and PTI leaders urged the government to take immediate steps to revive economic activity. Furthermore, concerns were raised over the transfer of Peshawar’s development funds to other districts, leaving the city deprived of necessary improvements.
The Safe City Project, initially proposed in 2009, was another point of contention, as it has yet to be implemented. PTI leaders warned that if the government fails to address these pressing issues, protests remain a viable option.
In response, Chief Minister’s Focal Person for Peshawar Mega Projects, Arbab Asim, stated that work on major development initiatives is ongoing across the province. He assured that the concerns raised in the meeting would be reviewed and addressed where feasible.
