Meghan Markle’s latest Netflix series, With Love, Meghan, has stirred controversy, with her estranged half-brother, Thomas Markle Jr., launching a scathing attack on the show.
Appearing on TalkTV, Thomas dismissed the eight-episode docuseries as “bland” and “generic,” arguing that it misrepresented Meghan’s early years. However, his critique didn’t stop at the series’ content—it quickly turned personal.
Thomas, 58, strongly disputed Meghan’s claims about her upbringing, particularly her nostalgic stories about growing up watching cooking shows and developing culinary skills. He insisted that while their mother, Doria Ragland, was a talented cook, Meghan “never so much as lifted a spatula.”
He also took issue with Meghan’s mention of dining at Jack in the Box and Taco Bell, suggesting that her portrayal of a humble childhood was misleading. “We weren’t poor,” he scoffed. “She didn’t have to rub two nickels together at Sizzler’s salad bar. She ate at Musso & Frank Grill, Hamburger Hamlet, and plenty of Hollywood restaurants.”
Beyond disputing Meghan’s past, Thomas mocked her insistence on using the Sussex name rather than Markle. In a sarcastic jab, he suggested that he and their sister, Samantha Markle, should change their last names to Sussex as well, hinting at what he sees as an attempt to distance herself from their family.
Meghan, however, has stood firm in her choice. During the series, she corrected actress Mindy Kaling for referring to her as Markle instead of Sussex, emphasizing, “It just means so much to say, ‘This is our family name.’”
While Meghan’s estranged family continues to criticize her, Prince Harry has shown unwavering support. The Duke of Sussex makes a rare appearance in the series, offering praise for his wife’s work— a stark contrast to the harsh words from her half-brother.
Wrapping up his critique, Thomas Jr. took one final swipe, joking that he would need to refill their father’s heart medication before letting him sit through Meghan’s Netflix series.
