Huawei has revolutionised its smartphone offerings by blending two powerful AI models, Pangu and DeepSeek, into its latest flagship device, the Pura X.
This fusion of technologies has garnered significant attention, highlighting the company's innovative approach to AI in mobile devices.
Pangu, a suite of AI models developed by Huawei, has been a staple in the company’s AI-driven technologies. It includes large language models (LLMs) designed for applications in weather forecasting, drug discovery, and more.
Huawei had previously launched Pangu Model 5.0 at the HDC 2024, boasting a diverse set of features, including visual, prediction, multi-style, natural language, and scientific computing models.
In contrast, DeepSeek, a Chinese AI startup, introduced its DeepSeek R1 model, which is powered by Huawei's Ascend 910C chips. The DeepSeek R1 is designed to offer exceptional inference performance, further enhancing the AI capabilities in smartphones.
The integration of Pangu and DeepSeek AI models into the Huawei Pura X represents a significant shift in the company’s AI strategy. By combining the strengths of both AI systems, Huawei has redefined its approach to mobile intelligence.
The most prominent feature of this fusion is the Celia virtual assistant, which now incorporates these advanced AI technologies. Celia, powered by Harmony Intelligence, provides a highly responsive assistant that can handle everything from basic tasks to more complex user needs. "Celia helps with writing, answers queries, suggests new topics based on your interests, and makes everyday tasks more manageable," stated a Huawei spokesperson.
The integration of Pangu and DeepSeek AI has expanded Celia’s functionality to include smart payment capabilities, AI file-sharing gestures, voice interaction, and real-time translation, among other features. It has evolved into a more intuitive, multi-faceted assistant, offering users a seamless and smarter experience.
Huawei’s fusion of these AI technologies is not limited to the Pura X. The company has hinted at bringing this innovation to more of its smartphones in the future. While the Pura X is the first to showcase this enhanced AI integration, the Pura 80 series is expected to follow, bringing this cutting-edge feature to a broader audience.
