A case of monkeypox was reported in Karachi, marking the first known instance of the virus in the city.
A young man, a resident of Malir, tested positive for the virus and was immediately placed in the isolation ward at Jinnah Hospital.
According to medical experts, the symptoms of monkeypox typically include fever, body aches, and swelling of the throat. Dr. Saeed Khan, head of the Sindh Public Health Lab, stated that last year a similar case had been reported in Sindh as well.
“The virus was detected last year in Sindh as well,” Dr. Khan explained. He assured the public that measures had been taken to control the spread of the virus.
The Sindh Health Department confirmed that the affected individual remained in isolation at Jinnah Hospital.
