The Shawwal moon was not sighted in Malaysia, Australia, Bangladesh, Indonesia, India, and Brunei on Saturday, meaning that both countries will celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr on Monday, March 31, officials have confirmed.
In Malaysia, the announcement was made by the country’s religious authorities after extensive efforts to sight the moon at designated locations across the country. The absence of a visible crescent moon indicates that Ramadan will complete 30 days, marking March 31 as the day for Eid celebrations.
Similarly, Indonesia’s Ministry of Religious Affairs also confirmed that the Shawwal moon had not been sighted. As a result, Eid-ul-Fitr will be observed on Monday in the world’s largest Muslim-majority country.
Moreover, Bangladesh has also officially declared Monday, March 31, as the first day of Eid-ul-Fitr. Media reports stated that the Shawwal moon was not sighted in Bangladesh, India and Brunei, which means Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated on Monday, March 31 in these countries.
Eid-ul-Fitr marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan. Muslims across Malaysia and Indonesia will celebrate with special prayers, family gatherings, and festive meals.
Also, the Australian Fatwa Council announced that Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated on Monday, March 31, in Australia.
Countries such as Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and others will also confirm their moon sighting reports accordingly.
