Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday met with a US delegation led by Acting Assistant Secretary of State for Economic and Business Affairs, Eric Meyer, and welcomed American participation in the ongoing Pakistan Minerals Investment Forum 2025.
The prime minister said Pakistan’s mineral sector holds vast potential and urged US companies to take advantage of the investment opportunities it offers.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif emphasized the importance of strong Pakistan-US ties, describing them as vital for regional peace and security. He expressed a keen interest in working closely with the Trump administration to strengthen bilateral relations.
He also highlighted the need to enhance cooperation in areas of mutual interest, including trade, investment, and counter-terrorism.
Naqvi, Meyer hold in-depth talks
Separately, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi also met with Eric Meyer to discuss key areas of Pak-US relations and bilateral cooperation. The meeting, also attended by Acting US Ambassador Natalie Baker and Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, focused on strengthening cooperation in counter-terrorism, anti-smuggling, and counter-narcotics operations.
Naqvi reiterated that American companies could greatly benefit from the vast investment avenues being offered through the Pakistan Minerals Investment Forum. He termed the visit of the US delegation as a significant milestone in boosting bilateral economic engagement.
During the meeting, Naqvi also condemned the recent terrorist attack on the Jaffar Express and shared updates on the government’s counter-terrorism efforts. He stressed that the fight against terrorism is not Pakistan’s alone and called for greater international collaboration.
Eric Meyer acknowledged Pakistan’s role in global counter-terrorism efforts and thanked the Pakistani government for its cooperation in the arrest of wanted terrorist Sharifullah. He also expressed interest in the investment opportunities presented under the Minerals Investment Forum.
