The intensity of heat is likely to rise in Karachi with temperatures expected to peak at 38 degrees Celsius, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).
A change in wind direction has been cited as the primary reason for the rise in temperature, with the weather forecast warning of hot and humid conditions across the city over the next 24 hours. The heat is expected to feel more severe due to elevated humidity levels, pushing the "feels-like" temperature to as high as 41°C.
As of this morning, Karachi recorded a minimum temperature of 25.7°C. Northwesterly winds are currently blowing at a speed of 8 kilometres per hour. However, meteorologists have stated that the current wind pattern is contributing to the increasing heat.
“The rise in temperature is due to a shift in wind direction, and citizens may experience discomfort with real-feel temperatures ranging between 39 to 41 degrees Celsius,” a Met Office official told Dawn.
The maximum temperature is likely to remain between 36°C and 38°C for most parts of the city. However, some relief is expected in the evening when sea breeze returns, helping to moderate the soaring heat levels.
The PMD has advised citizens to stay hydrated, avoid unnecessary outdoor activities during peak hours, and take necessary precautions to cope with the heat.
