The ongoing extreme heatwave continues to grip the plains of the country, with the southern regions of Sindh and Punjab set to experience scorching temperatures today, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).
The department has issued a forecast warning of intense heat in these areas, with no immediate relief in sight.
Karachi weather forecast
In Karachi, the weather is expected to remain hot and dry for the next 24 hours. The minimum temperature recorded in the city today was 23.5°C, and the maximum is likely to soar between 38°C and 40°C. The humidity level in Karachi is reported to be relatively high at 74 percent, which will add to the discomfort.
Record temperatures across region
Yesterday, Jacobabad in Sindh bore the brunt of the heat, with the highest temperature recorded at a sweltering 44°C. Other cities also witnessed scorching temperatures, including Larkana, Lasbela, Mithi, Dadu, and Mirpur Khas, all of which recorded 43°C. Karachi's temperature reached 41°C, while Lahore saw a relatively lower 38°C.
In comparison, Peshawar and Islamabad experienced temperatures of 35°C, Muzaffarabad recorded 33°C, Quetta saw a cooler 25°C, and Gilgit reported a mild 22°C.
The PMD has urged residents in the affected areas to take precautions against heat-related illnesses, especially during the peak daytime hours, and advised the public to stay hydrated and avoid unnecessary exposure to direct sunlight.
The prolonged hot spell is expected to continue, with the possibility of the situation worsening as the week progresses. Experts are monitoring the situation closely and are prepared to issue further warnings if the temperatures reach critical levels.
