Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed authorities to ensure the transparent privatization of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) within the proposed time frame, emphasizing the importance of public confidence and investor trust in the entire process.
Chairing a high-level review meeting on the PIA privatization on Friday, the PM was briefed on the auction procedure, the timeline, and the conditions required for participation in the privatization process.
The prime minister stressed that transparency must be the top priority, instructing officials to broadcast the privatization proceedings live on both television and digital platforms. He said this practice should not be limited to PIA but should be adopted for the privatization of all future state-owned enterprises.
To attract global and local investment, PM Shehbaz Sharif also ordered the organization of roadshows to inform and engage potential investors. He emphasized that investors should be taken into complete confidence at every step of the privatization journey.
“Transparency and timeliness are non-negotiable. The privatisation of PIA and other state-owned enterprises should be conducted openly, with the people of Pakistan fully informed,” PM Shehbaz stated during the meeting.
The meeting concluded with a reaffirmation of the government's commitment to ensuring that the privatization process is fair, open, and aligned with the best international practices.
