In an effort to expedite the legal system and effectively handle its burden, the Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP) has developed a comprehensive policy for assigning priority to cases.
A seven-point guideline that aims to classify cases and make sure they are handled based on their urgency and importance has received approval from the Supreme Court’s Practice and Procedure Committee.
This policy will prioritise situations that need to be resolved as soon as possible. This includes instances involving bail requests, tax disputes, and election conflicts, demonstrating the importance of these issues for the judicial system.
In addition, the policy highlights the need of giving criminal cases with penalties of 10 years or more top priority, acknowledging the urgency of prompt justice in these circumstances.
Multiple petitions pertaining to the same judgment will be classified as high-priority cases, as the policy also emphasizes, demonstrating the court's commitment to handling these matters quickly and reducing repetition.
