Australia's all-rounder Mitchell Marsh has withdrawn from the Cricket World Cup indefinitely due to personal reasons, confirmed by Cricket Australia just two days before their crucial match against arch-rivals England. This news follows the recent absence of star all-rounder Glenn Maxwell from the England game due to a concussion sustained in a golf cart accident.
Australia is facing the loss of another vital all-rounder as Mitch Marsh flew back home on Wednesday for personal matters, leaving his World Cup participation uncertain. For the upcoming match against England, potential replacements for both Maxwell and Marsh include Alex Carey, Sean Abbott, Marcus Stoinis, and Cameron Green, while spinner Tanveer Sangha is traveling with the team as a reserve.
Should Marsh remain unavailable for the remainder of the tournament, Australia does have the option to seek a replacement, pending approval from the Event Technical Committee.
Marsh's World Cup performance thus far includes 225 runs at an impressive average of over 37 and two wickets. His standout batting performance came against Pakistan in Bengaluru, where he scored an excellent 121, and he also registered a half-century against Sri Lanka.
Australia's upcoming fixtures in the tournament include matches against England on November 4 and Bangladesh on November 11, marking the final two league games.
