Former member of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and ex-Senator Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar has announced that he will contest the upcoming election as an independent.
Khokhar said on Do Tok with Kiran Naz that he has abandoned the idea of forming a new political party.
Earlier this year, former senator, former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, and former finance minister Miftah Ismail organized a series of seminars named 'Reimagining Pakistan'.
The purpose was to underscore the current challenges facing the country and foster a consensus among all stakeholders regarding future actions
Khokhar said that he had decided to run as an independent after his plans to establish a new party were postponed until after the election.
"Some friends think that a new party should be formed after the election, so the plan of the new party has been postponed until after the election," Khokhar said.
"This time I will contest the election as an independent. If I succeed, I will stay independent."
I believe Miftah Ismail will not join any party, Khokhar replied to a question.
Khokhar also said that he would not join the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) under any circumstances. "PTI's performance was not good either," he said and added, "All parties in Pakistan run towards electables."
He asked what was the need of people when decisions are made in a closed room while adding that how Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz (PML-N) chief Nawaz Sharif has returned after four-year self-exile implies that 'there is definitely a deal'.
He also pointed out that the PML-N was contradicting its narrative of 'giving respect to the vote' by employing the methods it intends to use to bring Nawaz Sharif back to power.
