The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has decided to speed up the campaign against non-filers of income tax, and has also informed the International Monetary Fund (IMF) about the proposed plan.
Other administrative measures will also be taken, besides sending notices to non-filers. The board has collected data of personal and business transactions of such individuals.
According to FBR sources, a million people will be brought into the tax net in the first phase, while efforts will be made to bring 1.5 million people in the tax net by 2024. Until June 30, 2024, the FBR plans to increase the tax net to 6.5 million.
The non-filers will be issued notices in addition to taking other administrative measures. Moreover, strict measures will be taken to enforce tax laws.
The caretaker prime minister has also approved the measures to increase the tax net. According to FBR officials, 350,000 people filed tax returns this year.
