Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has confirmed that the upcoming iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will feature Apple's enhanced tetraprism Telephoto lens, boasting a 5x optical zoom.
The iPhone 15 Pro missed out on this technology due to space constraints and production challenges, but the iPhone 16 Pro series aims to overcome these limitations.
The new iPhones will address previous hindrances by increasing the screen size to 6.3 inches, providing more space for the advanced camera hardware.
Additionally, the production yield for the tetraprism lens has significantly improved, moving from 40% in 2023 to a commendable 70% or higher.
This boost in manufacturing efficiency, coupled with the expanded size of the iPhone 16 Pro, ensures the integration of the tetraprism lens, which was previously limited to the Pro Max variant.
While details about potential upgrades to the lens in 2024 remain uncertain, there are speculations about Apple exploring a "super telephoto camera" with an extended focal length.
