The health ministry on Saturday confirmed a new case of poliovirus in a 9-month-old child from Okarzai district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).
This brings the total number of polio cases reported in Pakistan this year to six.
In addition to the confirmed case, poliovirus has also been detected in 20 environmental samples collected from 12 districts across the country.
The presence of poliovirus in environmental samples indicates that the virus is circulating in the community and poses a serious risk to children under the age of five.
The health ministry has urged parents to ensure that their children are up-to-date on all recommended polio vaccinations.
Polio is a preventable disease, and vaccination is the only way to protect children from this life-threatening illness.
Pakistan launched a week-long nationwide polio vaccination campaign on Monday, as the country remains one of only two around the world where the paralysing virus still exists.
The latest polio eradication campaign is targeting more than 44 million children across much of the country, as well as in Pakistani-administered Kashmir.
