Meghan Markle's ambition to elevate her Hollywood status reportedly led her to make a surprising move – a visit to the offices of Us Weekly magazine while she was still an aspiring actress.
This revelation has been made by Omid Scobie, author of the book "Endgame" and co-author of the 2020 book "Finding Freedom" about the Sussexes.
According to Scobie, Meghan, now 42, accompanied her publicist to the Us Weekly offices a year before her relationship with Prince Harry became public.
The visit, he claims, was an attempt to increase her visibility and establish her name in the industry.
Scobie, who was working for Us Weekly at the time of Meghan's visit, recalls the actress being "very much on the radar" even though she wasn't yet among the A-list celebrities.
He acknowledges that her connection to the magazine gave him a head start in covering their relationship.
He further explains that Meghan had specifically selected the people she wanted to cover her story, and he was able to provide a different perspective, positioning himself as a sympathetic voice who understood Meghan's unique situation as a mixed-race woman marrying into the British Royal Family.
Despite their early connection, Scobie has recently denied having a personal relationship with Meghan.
In a court appearance earlier this year, he testified that he does not have close ties with either Harry or Meghan, emphasizing that he maintains a professional distance.
While Scobie's assertions about his relationship with the Sussexes may be debatable, his account of Meghan's visit to Us Weekly sheds light on her proactive approach to raising her profile and establishing herself in Hollywood before her royal life began.
