In a somber announcement on Thursday, the Saudi royal court confirmed the untimely demise of Prince Talal bin Abdulaziz bin Bandar bin Abdulaziz Al Saud at the age of 62.
The Saudi monarchy revealed that the prince's passing occurred under tragic circumstances, with reports in Arabic media suggesting that he lost his life in a plane crash.
Born in 1961, Prince Talal was the son of Prince Bandar and the grandson of the founding monarch of Saudi Arabia, King Abdulaziz.
The prince, who held the rank of lieutenant colonel in the Royal Saudi Air Force, had a distinguished career, notably serving as the assistant intelligence chief at the General Intelligence Presidency (GIP), Saudi Arabia's intelligence agency, from 2004 to 2012.
The official statement from the royal court did not disclose the specific details surrounding Prince Talal's death. However, Lebanon's Al Mashhad news outlet reported that the prince met his demise during a training exercise with the Royal Saudi Air Force, where his F-15 fighter jet is believed to have crashed.
The funeral prayers for the late prince are scheduled to take place at the Imam Turki bin Abdullah Mosque in Riyadh, where mourners will gather to pay their respects.
