In response to the 6.2-magnitude earthquake that struck Jishishan County in northwest China's Gansu Province at midnight Monday, President Xi Jinping has called for comprehensive search and rescue operations and effective measures to safeguard the lives and property of affected individuals.
The earthquake has resulted in a tragic toll, with 100 reported deaths in Gansu Province and 11 in Qinghai Province, causing damage to critical infrastructure including water, electricity, transportation, and communications.
President Xi Jinping, also serving as the general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, has instructed local authorities to prioritize timely rescue and medical treatment for the injured to minimize casualties. Additionally, he emphasized the need for vigilant monitoring of the earthquake situation and weather changes to prevent secondary disasters.
Xi urged the prompt allocation of relief supplies to the affected regions, the repair of damaged infrastructure such as electricity, communications, transportation, and heating, and the provision of suitable accommodations for those affected to ensure their basic living needs.

The State Council has been directed to dispatch a working group to guide earthquake relief efforts in the affected areas. The Chinese People's Liberation Army and the People's Armed Police Force are called upon to collaborate actively with local governments in executing emergency rescue and disaster relief operations, prioritizing the safety of lives and property.
Premier Li Qiang has also issued instructions, calling for exhaustive efforts to rescue those trapped and provide medical care for the injured to minimize further casualties.

In response to the crisis, the State Council has deployed a working group to the affected regions to assist and guide relief efforts. Gansu and Qinghai provinces have promptly organized relief support, including the immediate allocation of supplies such as camps and folding beds to the affected areas.
The ongoing earthquake relief work is being systematically carried out to address the immediate needs and challenges presented by the disaster.
