President Dr Arif Alvi expressed deep concern on Wednesday over the re-arrest of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Vice Chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi, urging authorities to ensure the protection of human rights and dignity in the country.
In a statement posted on the social networking website X, President Alvi underscored the importance of addressing issues such as the seizure of documents, harsh actions against protesters, and the reported mistreatment of the former foreign minister of two governments.
He emphasised that Pakistan should not become a state where human rights violations occur with impunity.

The President also criticised reactionary arguments that dismiss such incidents as routine, stating that Pakistan must undergo a transformative change. He called on the nation to unite in agreement for this change, stating that there is no better time than today to initiate the process.
Earlier today, Shah Mehmood Qureshi, who was released on bail in the cipher case, faced a sudden re-arrest by the police, reportedly now in connection with the GHQ attack case.
This development comes after the Supreme Court of Pakistan granted bail to both Imran Khan and Shah Mehmood Qureshi in the cipher case.
However, the release process for PTI founder Imran Khan has been stalled due to his arrest in the 190 million pound scam and Tosha Khana case. The Supreme Court's decision to grant bail did not extend to the additional charges against Imran Khan, further complicating the legal proceedings.
