In a fierce exchange of gunfire between security forces and militants in the provincial capital of Quetta, three terrorists were neutralized while a soldier embraced martyrdom, the military's media wing said on Friday.
The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said the incident unfolded when a group of armed militants launched an audacious assault on a security forces' post situated near Wali Tangi late Thursday evening.
The security personnel immediately retaliated, setting off a gunfight that would have profound consequences, it added.
"During an exchange of fire, three militants bit the dust. Pakistan Army soldier Subedar Qaiser Raheem embraced martyrdom. Another soldier was injured," it added.
It further said "Security forces of Pakistan will continue to thwart the efforts of the enemies of peace and prosperity in the country."
