In a recent turn of events, former Suits actress Meghan Markle finds herself facing challenges in the pursuit of lucrative deals, with high-end brands reportedly turning their backs on her and Prince Harry.
This setback comes in the wake of a difficult year for the California-based couple, marked by financial blows and strained relationships with senior members of the royal family.
PR expert Mark Borkowski, in an interview with The Guardian, weighed in on Meghan Markle's approach to reclaiming her career, highlighting her red carpet appearance at Variety's Power of Women gala in November 2023.
Borkowski suggested that such public appearances indicate a strategic move to put herself on display for potential casting opportunities and bookings. "That’s what Meghan’s been about," he remarked.
Last year proved challenging for the couple as they faced financial setbacks following the release of Prince Harry's tell-all memoir, "Spare," and Omid Scobie's controversial claims of 'racist royals' in his book, "Endgame."
The fallout also reportedly cost Meghan a potentially well-paid Dior contract, with The Crown’s actress Meg Bellamy stepping into the spotlight.
Furthermore, the couple's foundation, Archewell, reportedly suffered from the loss of generous donors, adding to their financial woes. As the year progressed, their business ventures with streaming platforms Netflix and Spotify also faced challenges. Borkowski noted that the content the couple aims to produce may not align with the perceived value by these platforms, leading to limited success.
Addressing the difficulties faced by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Borkowski mentioned, "Netflix hasn’t really worked, Spotify hasn’t really worked, and that is because the sort of content that they feel they want to produce, the platforms don’t believe it has any value."
