The wait is over for fans of the aquatic DC hero, Aquaman. Warner Bros. has unveiled the thrilling trailer for "Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom," marking the return of Jason Momoa as the formidable Arthur Curry, aka Aquaman.
In this sequel, Arthur Curry is now seated on the throne of Atlantis, facing new challenges and a ruthless adversary, Black Manta, portrayed by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II. To combat this formidable foe, Aquaman forms an unlikely alliance with his half-brother Orm, played by Patrick Wilson, who was once the King of Atlantis.
The logline sets the stage for an epic showdown: Black Manta, driven by a deep-seated need for revenge, wields the mythic Black Trident, unleashing a malevolent force that threatens everything. Arthur must put aside past conflicts to protect his kingdom, his family, and the world from impending destruction.
Returning cast members include Amber Heard, Nicole Kidman, Temuera Morrison, Willem Dafoe, and Dolph Lundgren. Randall Park makes a reappearance as Dr. Stephen Shin, while new additions to the cast include Vincent Regan, Indya Moore, and Pilou Asbæk.
James Wan returns as director, with David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick penning the script for this much-anticipated sequel. "Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom" promises to deliver an action-packed aquatic adventure, building on the character dynamics established in the first film.
This sequel also garnered attention due to Amber Heard's return following her highly publicized defamation trial with ex-husband Johnny Depp. Director James Wan clarified that the focus of the sequel was always on Arthur and Orm's relationship, emphasizing the bromance aspect.
As the fourth DC movie of the year, "Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom" seeks to continue the legacy of DC's cinematic universe, offering fans an exciting new chapter in Aquaman's journey. The film is scheduled to make a splash in theatres on December 20, 2023.
