Meta has unveiled the first major update of 2024 for WhatsApp Channels, enhancing the user experience with additional features.
The Channels feature was initially introduced in June 2023, initially limited to select countries but later expanded globally, including in Pakistan. This feature allows users to receive updates on various topics, such as favorite personalities and sports, via channels.
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg reported in November that over 500 million people were using WhatsApp Channels within just 7 weeks of its introduction. Capitalizing on its popularity, Meta has now announced the incorporation of new features to enhance the functionality of WhatsApp Channels.
According to the statement issued by Meta, the updated features include the ability for channel operators to share voice updates, conduct polls on different topics, and share channel updates in WhatsApp status. The introduction of voice notes aims to increase engagement minutes, considering the platform records 7 billion voice messages sent by WhatsApp users daily.
The inclusion of polls will enable users to express their opinions on various topics within channels, providing an interactive element. Additionally, the ability to share channel updates in WhatsApp status offers channel admins a promotional tool to reach a wider audience.
To streamline channel management, Meta has introduced the option to add up to 15 admins for a channel, facilitating quicker updates and information sharing with users. These updates signify Meta's commitment to enhancing user engagement and interaction on the WhatsApp platform through innovative features.
